Polyphenylthioether or polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) is a semicrystalline thermoplastic with high melting point of about 560 K.
It has outstanding heat and chemical resistance,dimensional stability and high mechanical strength.
PPS is often reinforced with glass fibers or mineral fillers to improve its mechanical strength.
Because of its high melting point and its poor solubility, special processing methods have to be used to manufacture products from this resin.
PPS is used for electrical and electronic parts such as plugs, connectors, relays, and switches. It is also used in automotive and chemical industry for air intake systems, pump parts, gaskets, valves, and bearings, particularly for service in corrosive environments.
