PLA has a low melting point (generally 160~165 °C), low processing temperature, high mechanical strength, good transparency, good solvent resistance and oil resistance, as well as good biodegradability and biocompatibility, thus it is widely used in disposable tableware, packaging, agriculture and medical fields. Among all the biodegradable plastics, PLA is the most competitive biodegradable material due to its high yield, low price, high mechanical strength, fast degradation rate, easy processing and molding, more varieties, more mature research, and “Bio-based” degradability.

The glass transition temperature (Tg) of PLA is low, and the heat deflection temperature (HDT) is low (generally around 55.C), which greatly restricts its application in the fields of tableware and packaging;

PLA is sensitive to water, shear force, temperature and retention time during the melt processing. Therefore, the presence of trace amounts of water, or the shear force of the screw is strong, or the barrel temperature is high, or the retention time in the barrel is long, can cause serious thermal decomposition of PLA, thus causing its performance to decline linearly.
