多聚甲醛是一种线性聚合物，无侧链、高密度和高结晶度。是一种综合性能优异的工程塑料。它具有良好的物理、机械和化学性能，尤其是优异的耐磨性。俗称钢或钢，适用于生产耐磨零件、传动零件、化工仪表等零件。　　

POM无毒，用途广泛，有食品级、饮用水级POM材料，但在生产过程中需要注意加工方法，不当的加工方法会产生有毒气体

　　当使用正确的加工方法时，POM对人体无害，由POM产品（聚甲醛）制成的产品在室温下裂解也相当缓慢，是一种安全的材料，但如果在特殊的加工条件下，如高温或存在裂解催化剂的条件下，会很快进行，聚甲醛（POM）在注塑生产过程中会产生少量的甲醛气体，所以只要保持在正常的生产条件下，问题就不严重了
