As a thermoplastic resin, polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) has good resistance to dissolution, high heat resistance, good ductility, high strength and modulus, and the melt viscosity of PBT is relatively high. Low crystallization speed, easy to form, can be used as raw materials for engineering plastics, films and synthetic fibers, widely used in electronic communication equipment, computers, industrial equipment, lighting systems, automotive internal and external parts and other fields.
There are many varieties of PBT. In addition to the reinforced ordinary grades, there are also flame retardant, glass fiber reinforced, glass fiber reinforced flame retardant, and mixed gold grades. The blended gold products can be mixed with polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polycarbonate, nylon, polyphenylene ether, etc. to form polymer alloys.
There are generally two methods for the synthesis of PBT, one is the transesterification method using dimethyl terephthalate (OMT) and 1.4 butanediol (BD) as raw materials; the other is using purified terephthalic acid ( PTA) and 1.4 butanediol (BD) are the direct esterification method as raw materials. The esterified products obtained by the two methods can obtain the target product PBT through polycondensation. Application of PBT in Packaging Materials

The injection molding properties of PBT can be used for engineering plastics such as electrical, electronic parts and auto parts by using its heat resistance, drug resistance and insulating properties. The film-grade PBT used for packaging must have a higher external melt viscosity than the injection-molding grade P8T. Usually, solid-phase polymerization is used to obtain a high polymerization point, that is, a high melt viscosity.
