As of 2010, the total global PMMA production capacity was 2.25 million tons/year, of which sheet metal accounted for 49% and molding compound accounted for 51%. From the perspective of product performance and use, PMMA molding compounds can be roughly divided into four categories: general-purpose, heat-resistant, optical, and impact-resistant.
