HIPS is a modified PS material that incorporates 5-15 percent rubber component, therefore its hardness is approximately four times that of PS, while impact strength is substantially enhanced. It has the benefits of PS in terms of moldability and tinting strength. HIPS products are obtrusive. Pre-drying is not necessary prior to manufacturing due to its low water absorption rate. Because the HIPS molecule includes 5-15% rubber, the fluidity is influenced to some amount, hence the injection pressure and temperature should be increased. Given that its cooling rate is slower than that of PS, enough holding pressure, holding duration, and cooling time are required.
